Great Expectations

No iPhone 5S until September or October. A smartTV at the end of 2013. Larger-screen iPhone and smartwatch in 2014. A new killer service around mobile payments. A China Mobile deal for the iPhone – finally.
Those are some of the takeaways from comments made by Apple CEO Tim Cook yesterday after the company reported second-quarter earnings. To be sure, Cook never mentioned the iPhone 5S or said anything about a smartTV or smartwatch or a mobile payments service. What he did say is that Apple is “ hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software and services that we can’t wait to introduce this fall and throughout 2014” in “exciting new product categories.”
And in response to a question about whether Apple might create a version of its smartphone with adisplay that’s larger than the 4-inch used in the iPhone 5, Cook said, basically, not right now. “Our competitors have made some “significant tradeoffs” in many of these areas in order to ship a larger screen. We would not ship a large-display iPhone while these tradeoffs exist.”

Matthew Stoltzfus could never get his students to see chemistry like he sees chemistry until he added a digital component to his lesson plan.
Stoltzfus, a chemistry lecturer at Ohio State University, struggled for years to bring complex chemical equations to life on the blackboard, but always saw students’ eyes glaze over. Then he added animations and interactive media to his general chemistry curriculum. Suddenly, he saw students’ faces light up in understanding.
“When I see a chemical reaction on a piece of paper, I don’t see coefficients and symbols, I see a bucket of molecules reacting,” Stoltzfus said. “But I don’t think our students see that big bucket of molecules. We can give students a better idea of what’s happening at a molecular level with animations and interactive elements.”

Who are the Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers for 2013?
You could answer that question by saying, of course, they are the people who most influence the biggest brands or have the best selling book or who have been around the business a long time.
But social media is a very democratizing form of communications and to assess influence you really need to know who is first among equals.

A-Rod on Instagram

By Anamm Butt

On Sunday, the New York Times published a photograph of New York Yankee Player Alex Rodriguez on their front page. The big deal? The photo was taken through an iPhone and was edited and posted through Instagram. The use of the photograph has sparked a lot of controversy and many critics are arguing that apps like Instagram are threatening to change the face of traditional photography. On the contrary, I think Instagram is helping discover new talent and allowing people to connect through a visual medium.
Instagram is a social media app that allows you to share your world through photographs. It has helped give new definition to the blogosphere and contributes to the global conversation through images. It not only allows individuals to instantaneously share what they are seeing, experiencing, or eating, but also allows them to give their perspective a little flair. You can edit the images by using a filter or fixing minor imperfections.
Instagram is the place to find the first photographs on breaking news stories, popular events, and a birds eye view of the world. Want to know what looks are coming down the runway during Fashion Week? How about the energy level Coachella? Instagram allows users to connect on a whole new level.

Facebooks Mobile Phone Revolution

The company’s ‘new home on Android’ will put “Facebook first”, sources told the Wall Street Journal. It is widely expected to centre around a new Facebook homescreen that will turn the social network's Android app into a core smartphone component.
Software leaked to Android Police appears to show that while HTC is expected to unveil a mid-range ‘Facebook phone’ on Thursday night in California, the new features will also be available to Samsung phones as well as to those running standard Android. With Samsung increasingly dominant among Android manufacturers, such an approach would give Facebook access to a far greater market than if it simply limited its new services to a single device.
